- Other resorts (Hakuba Iwatake, Hakuba Sanosaka, Tsugaike Kogen, Hakuba Cortina) offer full-day lessons only, with a ¥15,000 resort entry fee per lesson.
- All prices are in Japanese yen.
Night lessons
Family time on the slopes by day, a little practice of your own at night? The 2hrs Lesson can also run in the evening, at the same price as daytime.
Night skiing usually opens around Christmas, depending on snow, and runs every day once open.
New this season, Hakuba Goryu has snowmaking: a run about two snowcats wide in the beginner area, so opening may be steadier than in past years.

First lesson at Hakuba Goryu? We work with Goryu's official rental shop: your gear is ready before you arrive, and your instructor takes you to pick it up and starts by showing you how to put it on.
Choosing an instructor
Requesting a specific instructor costs extra.
Bringing your kids
Kids can ski from age 3 and snowboard from age 6. We teach children through play.
Age and lesson length
- Skiing from age 3; snowboarding from age 6, since younger children's bones are still developing.
- For children aged 6 and under, we strongly recommend a private lesson, priced as the "1 person" column. Snowboarders under 6 in special cases always take a private lesson.
- At this age we recommend a 2hrs Lesson or a Half-Day Lesson. A full day is too long for little ones' energy.
- From age 7, a private lesson isn't necessary. If your child has special circumstances, feel free to ask our customer service first.
Before the lesson, the instructor checks with you
- Any allergies
- Have they eaten
- How they're feeling today
- Did they sleep well
Kids are different every day, and the instructor adjusts the pace to match. If your child is nervous or needs anything else, let the instructor know too.

How we teach children
Every snowsport instructor certification starts at Level 1 by teaching beginners and children. Our approach follows the children's teaching principles of the Canadian Ski Instructors' Alliance (CSIA):
- Get down to their level. Goggles up, call them by name, and become friends first, then start teaching.
- We teach through games and role-play. Turning becomes "stomping grapes for juice" and gliding becomes a "snow safari." While they play, the skills come without them noticing.
- Falling is part of learning. The first thing we teach is how to fall safely and get back up on their own, so falling stops being scary.
- We keep an eye on them all the time. Tired means a lighter game or a break, cold means moving to warm up, and they can ask for the toilet anytime. When they get it right, they get praise, plus a candy or a cute sticker as a little reward.
Can parents watch?
Yes, feel free to watch and take photos. We suggest not staying close the whole time, though: seeing mum or dad nearby makes it easy for a child to lose focus.
Booking and changes
- One resort per day: you can't switch between morning and afternoon.
- For lessons outside Hakuba Goryu, leave your contact details when booking; your instructor will get in touch about 3 days before.
- To change resorts, contact us at least 3 days before your lesson.
